International Scientists Appeal To Protect Humans From Wireless Technology

Image
190 scientists from 39 nations have made a global appeal requesting countries adopt more protective exposure guidelines for electromagnetic fields (EMF) and wireless technology in the face of increasing evidence of risk to humans and wildlife. "These exposures are a rapidly growing form of environmental pollution worldwide," the scientists said. The "International EMF Scientist Appeal" asks the UN Secretary General and UN affiliated bodies to encourage precautionary measures, to limit EMF exposures, and to educate the public about health risks, particularly to children and pregnant women. THe scientists said the Appeal highlights WHO's conflicting positions about EMF risk. "WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer classified Radiofrequency radiation as a Group 2B "Possible Carcinogen" in 2011, and Extremely Low Frequency fields in 2001. "Nonetheless, WHO continues to ignore its own agency’s recommendations and f...

In a first, French scientists create sperm in lab

Image
LONDON: Sperm has been created in a laboratory for the first time, French researchers have claimed, raising hopes of treatment for infertile men. A company based in in Lyon said they had created human sperm in vitro, a feat which would be a world first. Isabelle Cuoc, the CEO of the Kallistem laboratory, said: "Kallistem is addressing a major issue whose impacts are felt worldwide: the treatment of male infertility. "Our team is the first in the world to have developed the technology required to obtain fully formed spermatozoa [sperm] in vitro with sufficient yield for IVF." Kallistem said it has taken male fertility tissue, known as spermatogonia, and turned it into mature sperm in test tubes. This complex process usually takes 72 days. This would benefit tens of thousands of infertile men who cannot develop their own sperm. But until the publication of a patent on 23 June for the process, called Artisem, the company is refusing to disseminate their r...

Ebola May Persist in Survivors' Eyeballs for Months.

Image
WASHINGTON:- It seems like the plot of the British Zombie Apocalypse movie  “28 weeks later”.  The Ebola virus can persist within the eyeballs for months after a patient recovers from the deadly disease, researchers have found. A report released this week by the US journal New England Journal of Medicine described a case in which Ebola was present in the eye's aqueous humor 10 weeks after the virus was cleared from the patient's blood, Xinhua reported  Aqueous humor is the clear fluid in the front of the eye, between the lens and the cornea. Despite the presence of Ebola in the eye, the researchers were quick to note that samples from the patient's tears and conjunctiva, the surface of the eye and eyelids, tested negative for the virus.  It, therefore, indicated that casual contact with Ebola survivors carried no risk. The patient, identified by US media as 43-year-old Ian Crozier, was diagnosed with Ebola in September, while working in an Ebola treatm...

Global CO2 level surpasses 400 mark, poses serious environmental threat: NOAA.

Image
World’s biggest environmental problem, global warming is on its heights, as a new report from National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has warned that global CO2 (major contributor to global warming) emission has break all the records by reaching 400 parts per million (ppm) mark in March 2015. The report suggests that it is the highest ever concentration of CO2 in recent history. Pieter Tans, lead researcher NOAA’s Global Greenhouse Gas Reference Network, said this isn’t the first time that CO2 level has surpassed 400 ppm mark. Back in 2012 Arctic sites were recorded with over 400 ppm of CO2 level. However, surpassing the mark on the global scale is a significant milestone, said Tans. Researchers blame burning fossil fuels in excess either for industries or for transportation as a prime reason behind rising CO2 level. Scientists also addressed the fact that the major rise in concentration of CO2 was seen after industrialization. According to reports,...

Scientists Create Artificial Blood That Can Be Produced On An Industrial Scale: A Limitless Supply Of Blood?

Image
Scientists have found a way to produce human blood, potentially on an industrial scale — thanks to a certain University of Edinburgh professor, Marc Turner, and his program’s funds from the Wellcome Trust. With this new method, scientists hope they’ll produce a sort of “limitless” supply of type-O red blood cells, free of diseases and able to be transfused into any patient. Blood transfusions are used to replace lost blood after an injury or surgery. According to the   National Institutes of Health , every year five million Americans require blood transfusions. Through the use of pluripotent stem cells — regular cells removed from the human body and then transformed into stem cells — Turner and his team of researchers were able to create blood type O red blood cells. The technique will be tested in live humans for the first time, in a trial running through 2016 or 2017. In the experiments, researchers will test the artificial blood on people who have thalassaemia, a blood...

Jessica Meir prepares for journey to Mars

Image
On Dec. 5, NASA completed its first test flight of the spacecraft Orion, a capsule built to carry humans to Mars within the next 15 to 20 years. That may seem like a long time, but it’s a huge project involving thousands of scientists, engineers, astronauts and administrators. Here’s a profile of one of these NASA employees as they head into “The Mars Era.” When Jessica Meir (pronounced MEER) was 5 years old, her teacher asked her to draw a picture of what she wanted to be when she grew up. The image she drew, of an astronaut in space, turned out pretty close to what her life looks like now. Ms. Meir is a NASA astronaut candidate at the Johnson Space Center in Texas. In June 2013, she and seven other applicants were selected from a pool of more than 6,000 for an intensive training course that will prepare them to fly into space. For her, the successful Orion test in December (just months away from the end of her two-year training) was an impressive sign of things to c...

Experts Are Warning That The 76 Trillion Dollar Global Bond Bubble Is About To Explode.

Image
Warren Buffett believes “ that bonds are very overvalued “, and a recent survey of fund managers found that 80 percent of them are convinced that bonds have become “ badly overvalued “. The most famous bond expert on the planet, Bill Gross, recently confessed that he has a sense that the 35 year bull market in bonds is “ending” and he admitted that he is feeling “great unrest”.  Nobel Prize–winning economist Robert Shiller has added a new chapter to his bestselling book in which he argues that bond prices are “irrationally high”.  The global bond bubble has ballooned   to more than 76 trillion dollars , and interest rates have never been lower in modern history.  In fact, 25 percent of all government bonds in Europe actually have a   negative   rate of return at this point.  There is literally nowhere for the bond market to go except for the other direction, and when this bull market turns into a bear it will create chaos and financial deva...
