American Military Developing Real Life Iron Man Suit.

Tampa, Florida -- A real-life Iron Man suit is in the works for American soldiers, and the U.S. military is designing it right now, right down the street, at MacDill Air Force Base.
Supporters say because of this suit, more soldiers will survive and Tampa Bay will thrive.
When you watch the concept video created for SOCOM, the U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, it's hard to believe this is real.
But there are more than two dozen people at MacDill working on the project, pushing the limits to design this suit.
Even the Defense Department calls it the "Iron Man suit," but it does have an official military acronym: TALOS, short for Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit.
When it's ready to be strapped to an American fighter, TALOS will have full-body armor, a helmet with sensors and displays, and a motorized skeleton to carry heavy loads.
It's designed to let an elite soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine -- the "special operators" overseen by Special Operations Command -- seek out targets with a display while protecting his limbs, and taking the immense weight of gear right off his back.
Current body armor often protects just 20 percent of a special operations fighter, and members of these elite teams like Navy SEALs and Green Berets typically carry more than 90 pounds of gear into combat.
There are companies really building this. This video from Revision Military shows a real prototype in action.
"This is actually happening. This is not a myth," said Rich McClain, head of the Tampa Bay Defense Alliance, which supports the military here in Tampa Bay.
McClain told me this suit, straight out of the movies, will boost Tampa Bay's tech industry and help keep MacDill safe from downsizing and recessions.
"I think as we progress and we see forward, we'll see this come full-scale and Tampa will be the hub for the TALOS, or the 'Iron Man suit.'"
In the next several weeks, an Iron Man suit may be on display right here in Tampa.
worldwide conference is coming to the Tampa Convention Center in May, hosting the leaders of the most elite military forces from all of our allies.
At these conferences, organizers sometimes put on demonstrations of technology for the public, out in the open. If they do, there's a good chance this suit will be the star.
The first working TALOS prototype is expected to be delivered to SOCOM at MacDill by 2018.
